Big changes are coming to iJoomla Ad Agency
iJoomla Ad Agency is a hugely powerful tool. For any Joomla developer hoping to sell advertising space on their website, it’s an invaluable way to set up campaigns, run ads and generate revenue.
We’re very proud of it, and our customers have told us that they’re very happy with it. That makes us even prouder.
But there are one or two things about the Ad Agency that we think could be improved. The ability to select more than one zone for a package, for example, adds flexibility but it’s not an option that many people use and we’ve learned that it can create problems. So we’re changing it. The next release will allow only one zone per package. We think that’s going to make things a lot easier for everyone.
We’re also making some changes to the zone edit page. We’re adding tabs to make it easier to navigate and improving some of the functions. In the new Ad Agency, you’ll be able to:
- Set the type of ad the zone supports;
- Specify the ad size for banners and text ads.
On the front end, the packages list will take information from the zone settings to display more information about each package. You’ll be able to show:
- The ad types available for this package;
- The number of ad rows and columns to be displayed in the zone;
- The ad size allowed for the zone;
- Whether the ad will rotate with other ads.
And another important change is that each slot will now show a unique advertiser. Your advertisers won’t be receiving more than they paid for.
Once you upgrade, you will be asked to select which zone to assign to each package.
You might have to do a little modification to your packages once you’ve downloaded the new Ad Agency, but it’s definitely worth the effort.
We hope to release this new version within a month. So look out for it!

Hello,
This is great news. One question/suggestion.
We would like to drive our advertising revenue based on geographical location.
We are utilizing the Geo Targeting zip code function to it’s fullest extent and it is of great value to us.
One issue, and something that would be great in a new upgrade..We would like to be able to make an advertiser select a geo channel as part of their package or campaign…we want to price geo locations differently based on our websites user base..(i.e. an advertiser who selects the NY City location will pay more for their package than one who selects Iowa…and the car dealer in Iowa does not care to advertise to the viewers in NYC)
So how can we make the Geo Targeting more than an optional selection for our advertisers? As admins we should have the option to make it a required selection as part of the ad package or campaign, and ideally each one would have it’s own price related to the geo code. This would provide ultimate flexibility and control of our sales revenue stream. Ad Agency already has all of the functionality to accomplish this, we just need it re-configured so that the Geo Targeting isn’t just an option the advertiser can select…Then as you said above, we are not giving them more than they are paying for. any feedback or elaboration on this functionality would be greatly appreciated!
Best Regards,
Jeff A

Jeff,
You bring up some good points, however at this time the only way to do this is to disable Geo Targeting for advertisers but then assign a channel on each banner they submit on the backend.

I have been using OpenX to serve ads on my Joomla/Wordpress powered site using a seperate database.
I am thinking of switching to AdAgency what kind of server load would this put on my site as well as my Joomla database?
The second, the very feature that is being removed multiple zones per package, is there a way to still have it, but have it set-up so that it can be turned on or off?
Last question, does the new advertiser set-up prevent two of the same ads in different zones from being displayed? For instance “Advertiser A” purchases ad space on my site for their ad campaign in two different zones. Now with the new set-up will this prevent ads from the same campaign from being displayed on the same page?

We did a lot of work on optimizing the performance, so you shouldn’t have any issues, we use it ourselves on ijoomla.com. No, multiple zones feature created many logic issues and is removed completely. As for the last part, we are still working on it, but yes — if they order 2 packages they will be able to display 2 ads.

Hi Merav
I’m really looking forward to this new release.
My website is a social network site (using JomSocial) and therefore I would like my ads, running down the right side of my website, to all have the same format.
So, being able to specify the size (dimensions) of the ads is a great step towards that, BUT I still feel unsure to open the ad creation up to the public users until I can also control
1. The length of the ad’s Title. Although you can set a character limit for the body of the ad, there doesnt seem to be an option for me to set a character limit on the title.
2. The style of the ad. I would like to specify the style of all ads, for example that I want all titles and action links to be bold and in a specific color.
Do you perhaps have any feedback on these points?
Warm regards
Gilan
