iJoomla Magazine – The Next Generation is almost here!
A favorite for more than four years, iJoomla Magazine is our oldest extension. Now we’re giving it a major facelift.
We’ve added a bunch of features and improved the functionality. Here’s a video that shows what’s new:
Included in this version:
- Unlimited zones.
- Module zones.
- Improved authors profiles and module.
- Automatic image resizing.
- And much more!
We’re currently testing iJoomla Magazine to assure it’s stable and ready to be released. It should take just a couple more weeks to finish the testing and the documentation, so stay tuned!

Some really great improvements there. Looking forward to use it. I hope you will consider giving the new portal a face lift with added zone flexibility as well =)

Hi Merav,
This looks very interesting indeed. Two questions though:
– The Authors module in the video showed the first 3 authors.. .others available via link. I noticed in the back end you can control which authors show in the author list, but it wanst clear if you can control *which* 3 authors show in the module – is it just the first 3? It would be nice if you specify, or maybe have a random selection from the author list on each load.
– The image resizing feature sounds great – however, do I understand it correctly that you have to manually identify/upload an image for each article in the issue … could it not just pick up the first image in the article like iJoomla News does ?
Good luck with the testing…. looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Aidan.

This looks very exciting. I hope you have added JomSocial support for activity streams and Profile stuff. This would make for the ultimate publishing system.

@Aidan, the order of authors on the module will have some flexibility, at least 5 different ways to order them. As for image resizing, the images will be grabbed from the article or from the magazine article settings, depending on what you specify on settings, either way, it will be resized based on the zone settings.
@WestKootenay, what kind of support did you have in mind?

I’m not sure what @WestKootenay had in mind, but I also use jomsocial …. it would be usefull to see the iJoomla Magazine Authors Bio appear in an application on the users profile in Jomsocial (for any users who have an author bio) – along with a link to their recent articles (and a link to the issue that contains them) etc. This would highlight authors contributions in Jomsocial, attracting visitors looking up an authors profile into the rest of the site articles.

I also would like to see jomsocial integration that Aiden commented on.

How robust is the newsletter feature? Sufficient to replace Jnews? If not, is Jnews compatible? Is Community Builder compatible?

Has a release date been announced for Magazine?

Actually the newsletter feature has been removed on this release. There is no point in including it, if most servers won’t support it. I would recommend using an outside solution like icontact.
